On the Road Again

We recently bought a treadmill, which has been my training for the past few weeks. I’ve loved it. It’s super convenient. I don’t have to run in the freezing cold, I don’t have to get a sitter watch my kids, or I don’t have to go at night after my husband is home from work. I can set a pace, set the incline, watch some Biggest Loser as I run, it’s great.

BUT on Saturday it was a little sunny outside, so I decided to take my run on the road. As great as the treadmill has been, there’s nothing like the feeling of running outdoors! The fresh air, the pavement, and the fact that the farther I go out, the farther I have to run to come back.

So even though I have a treadmill, I’m going to try to run outdoors twice a week to keep up that motivated feeling.

Are you a road runner or a treadmiller?

Road…the treadmill is great for all the reasons you mentioned but it’s drudgery to me. The road is where I find my joy!

  2. I mostly run on the treadmill, but I love running outside when I can. I’ve also found that I run MUCH faster outside than I do on the ‘mill.

BTW, I ran this relay a couple years ago and it was SO. MUCH. FUN! And I just ran the Ragnar Relay here in AZ in February…can’t wait to run in another!

  3. Oh Man just found this blog, I’m training for the ragnar in Utah in June but from the bay area and I’m freaking out about running in the high altitude…But I love the treadmill for all the same reasons…But out doors seams to kick my butt when I run I know its harder but feels so good when I’m done.

  4. Thanks to the Southern California weather, I never run on the treadmill. I’ve got my own new creative training system when my kids are home, but that’s for another post.

  5. I’m a treadmill runner. The Midwest weather and early sunsets, doesn’t give me a choice in the winter. Plus it’s nice to be able to run with my husband, even if he is running at a different pace than I am. And I don’t have to worry about getting hit by a car or miss my favorite prime time shows.

  6. I used to be a dreadmill runner but after training for a 1/2 inside and then having a dreadfull half marathon I realized that I needed to suck it up and take it outside if I wanted to be ready. I know sometimes the treadmill is a must but I just think you’re so much better prepared if you stick it out and train outside.

  7. my mom bought a treadmill that is motor driven, i still prefer to jog and run the old fashioned way.,-*
