Powering Down with a Recovery Drink
After I exercise, I love to treat my body to a nice recovery drink. It’s a way to say “thank you” for letting me get in that heart pounding workout, helping my body bounce back, allowing it to build back muscle. I crave these drinks after a workout, it seems to balance me out.
But there are a lot of different ways to get in that recovery drink. It’s mainly just carbohydrates and protein in liquid form. You could eat something, but I find it easier to drink it down.
Here are just a few choices: visit Anywhere 5K (pictured above) for more detailed descriptions.
- Plain ol’ Chocolate Milk
- Powder drinks like Emergen C or Recoverite by Hammer
- Sports drinks like Gatorade or Poweade or Vitamin water
- Coconut water
- Pre-mixed drinks like Refuel or Muscle Milk
What have you liked to drink after a workout? Maybe it’s just plain water to help with your thirst.

Nuun is my favorite recovery drink. Just pop a tablet in my water bottle.
I just tried this for the first time last weekend(training for my first half marathon!), but Gatorade during and after the run made all the difference in the world in how I felt.
My new favorite is G2 – LemonLime. I like that it tastes lighter (less sweet) than the traditional Gatorade.
I’m a big coconut water fan!
What brand of coconut water do you like? I remember you telling me that before. I’m nearly sold.
