I live in somewhat-mild weather so I have no decent excuses for avoiding my runs. But avoid them I do. In the morning, is simply too dark to run alone. Or while my husband was sick (and unable to run for a month), I thought it better to keep him company than to seize the opportunity for extra training runs.
So it was with some hesitation that I packed my running gear for a nine-day family vacation to freezy Copenhagen.
You know that terrible feeling when you pack your gear and don’t run once? I do.
I’m proud to report that I ran THREE TIMES. (Maybe more than the entire month of February). Yeehaw!
I ran with my friend the first time (pictured) so I wouldn’t get lost.
I summoned the courage to run alone with a poorly constructed itunes mix.
And I convinced my pal to run again — and challenge me to some fartleks — another time. All in temperatures below freezing.
So, basically, I rock.
Thanks to Christine for the inspiration. And Rachel for the company.
Now if I could find my training mojo for back home, I might be able to do this thing.

Yee haw! So proud of you!
I can so relate. haha. I live in Nashville so I should be out there hitting the pavement 12 months out of the year. With work travel, again, like you, sometimes the running clothes I’ve packed stay untouched in my luggage. So from a fellow workout avoider (it’s getting better now that it stays lighter longer) I salute you
I have packed and packed for “the best intentions of running on vacation” and come home with not a single sports bra used. Awesome job running on vacation!!
Oh, that is the biggest feat for me. Especially as usually my diet goes out the window on vacation too, so the last thing I want to do is run after I ate a gallon of ice cream the night before.
Good job! Way to go!
I’m heading to Disneyland for vacation shortly. I’ve scheduled two days for short workouts at the gym (3 miles or so plus maybe a few weights…no more than an hour total) and hello? I’ll be walking around Disneyland for three and a half days! But I also put in for a hard run the day after we get back to kick my butt if/when I don’t follow through. Yay for you for sticking to it!
